Elections & Voter Registration

The Town of Mt. Crested Butte conducts its elections pursuant to the Home Rule Charter of Mt. Crested Butte and by the Colorado municipal election laws. Polling places are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on election days.

Mt. Crested Butte Municipal elections take place on the first Tuesday in April of each even numbered year. Registered voters will have the chance to vote on Mt. Crested Butte municipal issues and town council members.  For more specific information, refer to the Town Code.

Voter Registration Information

To register to vote in Mt. Crested Butte, you can pick up a Colorado Voter Registration Application at Town Hall, at the Gunnison County Clerk's office, or you can download it off of the Colorado Secretary of State website. You must, however, register at the County Clerk's office in Gunnison, 221 N. Wisconsin Street, Suite C.

You should receive an official Voter Confirmation letter from the Gunnison County Clerk and Recorder approximately 20 days after completing and returning the voter registration form to the Gunnison County Clerk. If you do not receive this card, please contact the County Clerk.

To register to vote in Gunnison County, you must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Are 16 years of age, but you must be 18 years of age or older on the date of the election at which you intend to vote.
  • Are a Colorado resident at least 22 days before the election in the jurisdiction at which you intend to vote.


In order to register to vote in the State of Colorado you must provide one of the following forms of acceptable Identification:

  • Valid Colorado driver's license
  • Valid Colorado Department of Revenue ID#
  • Social Security number (at least the last four digits)

Where do I vote?

If you live within Mt. Crested Butte town limits, chances are you will vote in Town Hall at 911 Gothic Road, open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on election days. You should receive a notice in the mail after you register, but if you have an question as to where to go, please contact the Town Clerk.

What is the difference between elections?

Municipal elections take place on the first Tuesday in April of each even-numbered year. Registered voters will vote on Mt. Crested Butte town municipal issues (if there is something to put on the ballot) and Town Council members.

Gunnison county elections are held in November. County elections include special districts along with Gunnison county issues.
