Are you ready for some fun?

Then Mt. Crested Butte and the surrounding area is the perfect place to indulge your fun spirit! Mt. Crested Butte and our surrounding area have over 500 miles of mountain and dirt biking terrain, as well as hundreds of hiking trails and backcountry passes for four wheeling? In addition, the valley is home to numerous rivers and creeks, both for whitewater enthusiasts and fishing during several months out of the year. Probably the reason we're "Colorado's best" - not only are we a haven for our numerous winter activities, but over the years our popularity has grown for our year-round outdoor recreation. Playing here has become a prerequisite for our lifestyle, and although it's tough to not let it get in the way of everyday life, it's definitely high on our priority list!

Where are we?

Mt. Crested Butte is located in Gunnison County, 31 miles north of the City of Gunnison, Colorado, on Highway 135, and just three miles north of the town of Crested Butte.

You can arrive by air at the Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport, or during the warmer months, you can drive over one of Colorado's beautiful scenic passes. All secondary passes into Mt. Crested Butte are closed during the winter months.

During the winter you can drive via highway 50 from the West or East. In the town of Gunnison, turn North on Highway 135. The pavement ends just past Mt. Crested Butte, but it is where the fun and adventure begins.

Where to stay?

The Gunnison Valley offers a variety of accommodations depending on the time of year. During the Summer months, camping is available and a comfortable option. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce is a good resource for vacation rental homes, hotels, and other accommodations around the mountain.

Also, because our town is surrounded by National Forest, National Parks, and BLM land the camping opportunities, like natural beauty, abound. If you're in for a bit more of an adventure, you can trek over to Aspen in a half day's walk over some of the most gorgeous terrain Colorado has to offer, and camp in more of a remote part of the wilderness. For this and other outdoor recreation information, contact the Gunnison County Bureau of Land Management.
