Construction Rules & Regulations

The following are excerpts from Chapter 6 of the Town Code which addresses Building and Building Regulations within the Town of Mt. Crested Butte. The information only addresses key issues related to this section of Town Code.

ALL contractors and builders should be aware of all the regulations that apply to their construction project.

The following ordinances and rules apply to all construction projects within the town of Mt. Crested Butte:
  • Contractors and builders are required to clean all mud, gravel and debris from all public right-of-ways at least every 48 hours (Town Code, Section 6-39).
  • There are specific requirements for covering material, dust control, wetland fencing, and drainage at construction sites. These are covered in Construction Mitigation , Town Code, Section 6-40.
  • Dogs at-large are not permitted on construction sites. Dogs found to be at-large will be picked-up and the owner will be cited. Town Code, Section 4-18.
  • Heavy Construction and noise related to construction are permitted during the following hours:

    Monday - Friday   7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
    Saturday   7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    Sunday   10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • There is no parking on any town streets or roads. This is especially critical during winter season, as parked vehicles interfere with snow plowing activities.

    Contact the Community Development Department Staff to receive instruction on parking allowed under your permit. (Town Code, Section 6-38).
  • Construction equipment with metal tracks is not allowed on town streets or roads. Citations will be issued for violating this code. You may also be required to pay restitution to the town to cover any damage to the roadway. Steel plates or plywood surfaces may be used to load equipment  or to cross roadways. (Town Code, Section 17-17).
  • Open burning of construction debris is prohibited (Town Code, Section 8-26).
