Required Building Inspections In Mt. Crested Butte

Required inspections for the Town of Mt. Crested Butte are listed below.

A 24 hour notice is required to schedule an inspection.

It is the responsibility of the contractor or builder or sub-contractor performing the work to notify the Inspector that such work is ready for inspection  prior to commencing work which may conceal or alter the work. Also, it is the responsibility of the person performing the work to provide access for the Inspector. Neither the Building Inspector nor the Town of Mt. Crested Butte shall be liable for any expense related to the removal or replacement of work or material in order to allow inspection.

A complete set of approved construction and/or engineering drawings must be available on the job site at all times. Failure to have plans available for inspection may constitute halting further progress under the active permit.

List of Required Inspections:
  • To be made prior to scheduling of concrete pour.
  • Under-slab plumbing
  • Building set-backs must comply with approved plans
  • Footer formwork and reinforcements
  • Slab reinforcements
  • Stem wall or retaining wall formwork and reinforcement
  • Drainage devices
  • Rough-in
  • Rough plumbing – this includes water supplies, sewer, and gas supply lines. Pressure gauges must be on lines, and pressure introduced and maintained in the system. Call Andy Clark, CO State plumbing inspector at 303-869-3471.
  • Rough heating and ventilation – includes fireplace flues, cloths dryer venting, exhaust fan vent terminations, and stove and vent stacks
  • Rough framing – includes nailing at shear walls, clearances, fire-blocking, structural exterior sheathing, and roof sheathing.
  • Insulation – Inspection to be conducted after all insulation and barriers are installed and prior to application of interior wall coverings.
  • Wallboard or Drywall – This includes inspection of fireboard where required and nail patterns as specified by code.
  • State Electrical Inspection – Electrical permits are issued and inspected by the State of Colorado.  Please contact Inspector Paul Shelley 303-869-3462.
  • Fire Systems Inspection – Inspections of Fire Protection Systems and Structural Elements relating to fire protection code are enforced and inspected by the Crested Butte Fire Protection District. Please contact the Fire Inspector at 970.349.5333 to schedule inspections.
